A business goal that we thought would be fun to achieve is to have our pens all over the world. While traveling, we have given some of our pens as gifts to special people that have touched our lives as a thank you gift for providing us exceptional service or a memorable time. Kevin once sent a handful of pens to his team members who reside in a foreign country in appreciation for a job well done. When his team of software developers received their pens, the first thing that they did was take them apart to figure out how they were made and marveled at how Kevin got the wood so thin. You gotta love the curiosity of software engineers! While vacationing in Anchorage, Kevin bartered with a native who was making fly fishing lures out of polar beer fur at the Alaska Native Heritage Center.
We have had customers who were intentionally looking for something that was small, lightweight, and made in the USA so that they could ship it overseas as a gift. The question is, "Where will the next exciting location be for an NC Pen?"
International: Austria, Bermuda, China, India, Japan, The United Kingdom
USA: AK, AZ, AR, CT, FL, GA, HI, MO, NJ, NY, NC, OH, OK, SC, TN, TX

What our customers are saying:
"I love my bolt action pen, and looking forward to the mechanical pencil in matching wood." - R. Fischette, Rochester, NY
From a buyer of a Bethlehem olive wood pen and pencil set: "They are absolutely stunning." - L.N. Guzzino, Bound Brook, New Jersey
"Thank you! My wife loves the ice cream scoop -- what a beautiful piece!" - C. Lindahl. - Raleigh, NC
"I've been looking for a nice pen for my son and am thrilled to give business to someone I have a connection to~ the salt/ pepper mills have me very excited though! Wrapping one up to put under the tree with my name on it ." - N. Moulton, Honeoye, NY
"Whenever I’ve given pens and phone stylus stands, consistently I hear…'how beautiful!','can’t wait to try it!', ' how smooth it (the pen) writes,' and 'I want one of those!'
Whenever I’ve placed an online order, the process is smooth, accurately filled, and received in a few business days." – M. Fischette, Canandaigua, NY
"I have bought several items from NC Pens over the years, both wood and acrylic. Many of these were gifts, and I got lots of compliments on them! The pieces are beautifully crafted, and the materials really enhance the designs. I would definitely buy from them again!" - J. Sandorfi, Yorktown, VA
"I love the design of your pens. I am also happy with the quality and durability of your pens. I've bought them for several family members as gifts and they love them. Thank you NC Pens!" - S. Barsella, Durham, NC
"I have both a pen and mechanical pencil from NC Pens and I love them both! The pen is slender , well balanced with a smooth finish to the brown/red wood. The brass colored hardware provides a beautiful contrast to the wood. I’ve had it for several years now and recently refilled it with a cross ball point pen refill. The matching 2 mm lead mechanical pencil is handsome, sturdy and comes with a built-in sharpener. These days it’s getting harder to find this type of pencil – so glad I have one from NC Pens!" - D. Horan, Newington, CT
"You made a whiskey barrel bolt action pen for me a couple of years ago. I was always afraid to take it to work with me for fear that it would get damaged or stolen. In my current position, I do not have any of those concerns. I have been using it extensively during the last couple months, and I love it! It writes well, has a good weight and balance, the stylus is incredibly useful, and the bolt-action keeps my fidgeting at bay."
- C. Curry, South River, New Jersey
"Thank you Kevin and Cece Peterson. I’m loving my pizza paddle and cutter. Beautiful workmanship Kevin." - B. Fischette, Temple, Arizona

Our Story
Kevin began making woodturnings as a hobby in 2008. Kevin enjoyed the creative process of working at his lathe and making turnings as gifts so much that he decided to start NC Pens in 2015. Selling his turnings at community events allows Kevin to share his remarkable woodworking skills and knowledge with others. His wife Cece assists with marketing, event registration, and website development. We love being a part of our customer’s excitement when they purchase that unique gift for someone they care about. And yes, even if you buy yourself that “I gotta have it” item, it still counts as a gift!
We are Community-Focused
Through our participation in events hosted by community organizations, we are fortunate to have supported:
- Schools and Preschool Programs in the Durham/Chapel Hill area
- Local and International Missions
- Duke Children’s Hospital
- Non-profit organizations including Dress for Success of the Triangle, Hope Animal Rescue, NC ALS Association
- Anathoth Community Garden & Farm, Cedar Grove NC
- A Christmas Eve event for Nashville’s Mothers Over Murder support group
